On November 26th and 27th, the TeleFOT Consortium organised its final event at the Autoworld premises in Brussels after 54 months of hard work.
TeleFOT (Field Operational Tests of Aftermarket and Nomadic Devices in Vehicles) constitutes the largest pan-European field trial of functions provided by in-vehicle aftermarket and nomadic devices that has been conducted to date. During its lifetime, the project assessed the impact of functions provided by these devices on several domains including safety, efficiency, environment, mobility and user uptake. The Field Operational Tests (FOTs) were organised in eight different test sites: Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Greece and Spain. CIDAUT participated in the definition, set-up and execution of the Valladolid test site, involving 120 participants and gathering more than 800,000 kms of driving.
During the two days, the TeleFOT Consortium showed the work done during the preparation phase together with the results of the extensive analyses undertaken in the last stage of the project.
The first day was dedicated to general presentations of the project (project highlights, methodological framework, TeleFOT test sites, impact assessment and use of TeleFOT results) jointly with some keynote speeches: Juhani Jääskeläinen, as representative of the European Commission – DG CONNECT, Professor Brian Fildes from Monash University Accident Research Centre and Angelos Amditis, representing the European Nomadic Devices Forum.
The second day was devoted to more detailed presentations (test site operation and data collection, data management, innovations on data analysis, etc.), where CIDAUT presented the Valladolid test site experience as one of the successful stories within the project.
Additionally, during both days, an exhibition area was opened to the audience showing devices and experimental vehicles used during the FOTs, together with posters and multimedia information of each test site within TeleFOT.
Attendants, including international experts, telecommunication industry representatives, vehicle and device manufacturers, service providers, infrastructure operators together with end users associations, shared this exciting moment with the TeleFOT Consortium.
This same event constituted the final event of TeleFOTinco (TeleFOT International cooperation) project as well. This associated project, with a duration of 38 months, allowed a selection of TeleFOT partners to have an international exchange of experiences and methodologies in relation to FOTs with partners outside Europe, especially with the United States and Korea. CIDAUT was one of the four selected partners to participate in this inco project, being responsible of the methodological aspects.
More information and materials from the event are now available at the TeleFOT project website.

[…] I shared this professional experience very closely with my colleague Henar Vega all along the 4 years duration and at the end of this period we had the pleasure to attend the final event of the TeleFOT project, which was held in Brussels last November 2012. In the TeleFOT Final Event, we presented the experiences of the TeleFOT Valladolid Test Site in Spain, with highlights on how these FOTs were arranged, what kind of materials were used for collecting objective and subjective data and some lessons learned from the experiences gained in TeleFOT (find a joint publication between Loughborough University and CIDAUT titled “Lessons Learned from a Large Scale Field Operational Test of Aftermarket and Nomadic Devices – TeleFOT Project” at the HUMANIST Conference 2012 Program). Find out more details about the TeleFOT final event at the TeleFOT website and in this dedicated post from Henar Vega. […]
