Abstract: The safe speed and safe distance concept has been materialized in an Advanced Driver Assistance System within the framework of the European Project PReVENT (Preventive and Active Safety Applications) and specifically, the subproject SASPENCE. The system has been validated through field tests in real driving conditions in two European countries, namely Italy and Spain. In each country, a group of twenty persons participated in a two-driving session along a pre-selected route, one ride with the SASPENCE system active and the other one without it. This research activity finally resulted in the validation of the driver support system for Safe Speed and Safe Distance within the PReVENT project, outlining a number of conclusions that provide further improvements to the SASPENCE system.
